The sermon just added to the Antioch Podcast is titled "Church Of Christ". With this lesson from 1991, Phil Roberts explains the origin and biblical meaning of the phrase "church of Christ". We learn that it's not a denominational title but rather a descriptive phrase of all followers of Jesus that have been baptized into Him.

The Church As The Family Of God
There are many ways in which God has chosen to describe the church. One of those ways is by comparing the church to our earthly families. With this podcast, Phil Roberts delivered a sermon years ago in 1998 that we recorded originally on cassette tape. Though the tape had deteriorated, we were able to salvage and amplify the audio.
Phil Roberts shows the wisdom of God as he explains the similarities between the church and our family along with various ways the church as well as our our families can be improved.

Words That Describe The Church
Most people would agree that a great way to learn more about something is to compare it to things you're already familiar with. The church is and has always been a part of God's plan. This sermon by Phil Roberts gives an explanation of the true meaning of the church by using things we're familiar with as described in the scriptures.

The Banished Son
In the Old Testament there's a comparatively little known story about unrestrained love and obsession that led to uncontrollable vengeance. This true story, that reads like a soap opera, evolves into a story of a father and his undying love for a rebellious son.
As you listen to this story and begin to touch base with such strong human feelings, you're amazed when the speaker reveals that it has a very understandable and compelling spiritual meaning.

Summary of The Book Of Hebrews
The book of Hebrews explained to Jews the details of the transition from the Old Covenant to the spiritual reality of the New Covenant. Hebrews is the best book of the bible for explaining the connection of the physical forerunners we read about in the Old Testament to the spiritual realities we read about in the New Testament.
To properly understand a book of the bible, a bird's eye view can be very helpful and this summary by Phil Roberts is a clear, concise and to the point explanation.

Strangers And Pilgrims
Have you ever been in a foreign country? If you have, you know it's a weird feeling and you're amazed at how different things are compared to home. You also realize that you don't really fit in as well as you would like. When you're totally focused on heaven you begin getting that same feeling even in your own country here on earth.
This is a sermon from 15 years ago by Phil Roberts that explains all the details and all the reasons why it's normal for we that are Christians to have that feeling.

Stewardship
Stewardship is a word we don't use very much but it simply means our oversight of things that have been placed under our control. What we often fail to see is just how many things God has placed in our hands. This is not only a problem I have had but something we all wrestle with from time to time. Are you a good steward?

Standing Up For Right
We've all heard the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego that was thrown into the furnace but still survived. The thing that makes this sermon different is that it not only tells the story but more importantly, Phil Roberts explains the bigger picture and gives us the spiritual significance.
Something that's also amazing is his accuracy with a discussion he has in this sermon about the direction this country is traveling in.

Are You On The Wrong Side Of The Wall?
"Are you on the wrong side of the wall?" is the title of this blog post but the sermon posted has had several titles including "Separation From God" and "All Access To God". Access to God reminds me of a television show that was called "All Access To Hollywood" giving us the impression that it was the best source of that kind of information. Our only access to God is, of course, Jesus.
This sermon emphasizes the importance of having access to God and how terrible it is to be separated from God.

Seeing The Church Through Bible Glasses
Our Podcast this week features an excellent lesson by Phil Roberts from January of 1991. There was a song years ago called "Rose Colored Glasses" which meant seeing the world with a certain attitude. Seeing the church through Bible glasses means seeing or understanding the church from a biblical point of view. The result is a more accurate understanding of the church.

Why God Seems So Distant
Years ago there was a beautiful song made popular by Bette Midler called "From A Distance". Although it was beautiful to listen to, the lyrics were terribly incorrect. It proposed that God was only watching from a distance and couldn't see what really was happening. The truth is that God sees us very clearly but our sin prevents us from seeing Him.
With this week's podcast, Thaxter Dickey shows the real cause as to why God seems so distant at times and what we can do to correct it.
